Before joining Guilford County Schools, Joy served as the sole school psychologist for Person County Schools for over six years, where she conducted comprehensive assessments for exceptional children and supported the Academically Gifted program across 11 schools. She began her distinguished career as a regional school psychologist serving Caswell and Person counties, demonstrating an early commitment to addressing diverse student needs and navigating complex educational systems. Over the decades, she has played an instrumental role in refining procedures and developing assessment tools designed to improve both learning outcomes and student well-being.
Joy earned both her Bachelor of Arts Degree and her Masters Degree in Psychology with a concentration in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She remains actively engaged in her profession as a member of the North Carolina School Psychology Association and the National Association of School Psychologists.
Her outstanding contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including School Psychologist of the Year in Guilford County (2021), the Marquis Whos Who Award (2025), and most recently, Whos Who of Distinguished Leaders by The Wall Street Journal.
